All Over, but the Cryin’

Well, I have to say, I am surprised that Trump was actually allowed to win and with that close of a margin, too. He hasn’t been sworn in yet, though……. OK that sounds really paranoid. Doesn’t it???

There has been a lot of speculation about what will happen now, but most video bloggers tend to agree that the disastrous global economies are going to collapse under their own weight of debt. So, what will happen? Honestly, even Economists with decades of experience, like Dr. Paul Craig Roberts, don’t know because this level of debt upon debt has not ever happened before. They do agree that the U.S. dollar’s days of being the World Reserve Currency are over. This means that billions or trillions of dollars are going to flood back into our country and we’re looking at inflation or hyper-inflation that’s never happened before. As Bear, my husband, who has an M.B.A. in finance and international finance, the reason prices go up during inflation is the increase of available money. The supply of money is “inflated” and people are trying to use all this money to buy a still limited supply of merchandise. Supply and demand, the money supply is up and so is demand, prices go up. I know, it’s way, way more involved and technical than that, but that is close to actual fact.

Well, what can we do to offset this? Stock up on things you use everyday, now. Like food, bottled water, personal care products (including lots of toilet paper!), hygiene products and any over-the-counter medications you and your family uses. After you have enough for you and yours, stock a “barter box”. We’ve also bought several manual can openers since people will go out and stock up on canned goods and may not think to buy one. They will be more valuable if the power grid goes down and their electric can openers won’t work. How many of you have a manual can opener and can use it?? My electric one died decades ago and I never replaced it, I only use a manual one. At first, because I couldn’t afford a new electric can opener and later because I didn’t want one. We’ve picked up a variety of pain relievers, anti-histamines, soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes and other things to use for bartering with people for items we will need. The vast majority I bought at Dollar Tree or Dollar General so I didn’t spend a load of money on them.

We do have a supply of paper money since there will be people with a “normalcy bias” and will still see it as the only thing of value. Eventually, even the most stubborn person will see that any kind of currency is only good for starting fires. If you’ve listened to YouTube videos by, say, SGT Report or X22 Report, you’ll have heard them extolling the many virtues of gold and silver. We have for a few years and have some silver and a tiny bit of gold, not forgetting what’s in my jewelry box. Now, today, right after the election, it may be too late to go to a coin dealer and buy any silver or gold coins. According to the chart on BullionVault, at 11:00 pm Nov. 8 EST, the price for an ounce of gold in US Dollars was $1,332.58 when it became clear Donald Trump had won. Right now gold is, $1,285.60 and silver is $18.76 and I’d be surprised if you can buy any right now. My advice is to go through your jewelry box and see what you have, use a magnifying glass to read any tiny impressions on the clasp which should tell you if you have real gold or silver. Beyond that, you’d have to be a jeweler to understand the rest of it. Do you have any of grandma’s silver flatware or serving dishes laying around? It will break my heart if I have to barter what I have from my grandmothers, but it will be better than not having whatever we would need bad enough to have to use it. Bear has assured me those things are last resort items only.

Only you can decide, ultimately, what you can afford to buy in order to barter with others for items you might need in the future. In the event of a long-term disaster, bartering can mean the difference between eating or going hungry. Ideally, you shouldn’t barter for food for yourself. You’re putting yourself in a position where you will be desperate and willing to trade anything for food. I’d like to know that have learned something from all my ramblings and will have everything you need so you’ll only be bartering for extras, like eggs from a farmer.

Don’t forget to pick up a couple “luxury” items, like scented body sprays or even booze. Those will be worth more than an ounce of gold after a while.
